TLDR: Memex is now out of stealth. Build any software through natural conversation without writing code—whether you're creating web apps, data pipelines, 3D designs, or native applications. Download Memex and get started for free today.

Building a World of Builders

The past 250 years of human progress have been driven by exponential improvements in productivity, powered by technology.

Science and engineering form the backbone of human progress, but today we face a critical limitation: the people with ideas and the builders are often different people. Scientists, mathematicians, doctors, and climatologists typically aren't the same individuals as the engineers who build solutions. But what if we could give everyone the power to build? By democratizing the ability to create technology, we can further compress iteration cycles and accelerate technological progress to solve our biggest challenges and create a flourishing future.

Currently, there are approximately 35 million engineers in the world — 30 million who build software and 5 million who create physical products. We need more. And we need builders who also have domain expertise.

We need builders to sustain and accelerate the growth in productivity that uplifts human welfare. We need builders to address environmental challenges. We need builders to expand our horizons to interplanetary and interstellar frontiers.

The greatest bottleneck to human progress isn't ideas — it's our ability to transform those ideas into reality.

This is where Memex comes in. Our mission is to empower anyone to build anything to the benefit of humanity. We believe AI will expand the world's builder population by 100x, enabling the entire global workforce to create both digital and physical products. These "AI-native builders" — people who previously couldn't build due to technical limitations — will transform how we solve problems, and Memex will be a core part of their toolset.

We see a world where the artificial distinction between "technical" and "non-technical" people dissolves. There's a continuum of technical ability, and we're building for those in the middle, for the Citizen Builders — the tech-savvy, code-adjacent professionals who understand basic concepts but don't code professionally. These product managers, researchers, analysts, founders, and small business owners (among others) are being overlooked by tools built either for professional developers or complete beginners.

As AI transforms this landscape, we predict at least 50 million new builders will emerge in the next decade. They will build proportionally more challenging, bespoke applications than the completely non-technical population, yet they're underserved by existing solutions. Memex exists to empower these builders — to be the bridge between expertise and execution.

Memex is live today

Today, we're thrilled to announce that Memex is out of stealth and available for everyone to download and get started for free. Memex is an AI Builder for your desktop that transforms how software is created through natural conversation.

We call it The Everything Builder because unlike other AI vibe coding tools, Memex operates out of your desktop and can help you code in any tech stack and programming language.

Learn and build through conversation on your computer

Learn: Memex goes beyond basic AI assistants by enabling deep research tasks. It searches the web, performs follow-up queries, and compiles comprehensive results for you. For data-intensive research (whether web-based or your own datasets), Memex conducts analysis and creates visualizations inline. When you're not sure what to build, Memex helps you ideate and develop detailed plans.

Build: Create technology at unprecedented speed without writing code. Memex supports any programming language and any tech stack, enabling you to build virtually anything — AI agents, web applications, dashboards, ML pipelines, 3D designs, native apps, and more. From concept to deployment, Memex handles each step.

Conversation: You don't need to write a single line of code. Memex does the heavy lifting — searching the web, executing commands, writing code, and running programs autonomously. For tasks that can't be performed programmatically, it provides clear step-by-step guidance.

On your computer: While there are multiple platforms for AI assistance (web, mobile, desktop), the desktop is uniquely powerful as the one place where you can build anything and access any information. Memex securely connects to your applications and files, as well as APIs, cloud resources, databases, and mobile devices — all while maintaining privacy.

Real-world impact

Thousands of users are already experiencing transformative results with Memex:

  • A medical researcher with limited coding knowledge built a custom OCR solution in hours to digitize handwritten medical forms from rural African clinics

  • A hotel chain manager modernized their entire legacy system without writing code

  • An InsureTech CTO built a complex business rules engine in Ruby in a week, a project he estimates would have taken 2-3 engineers an entire quarter to complete. Oh, and he had never programmed in Ruby before

  • A non-technical founder launched an AI-powered startup without an engineering team

  • A marketing analyst created sophisticated attribution models and visualization tools using minimal SQL knowledge

We're seeing Memex users build everything from iOS apps to 3D-printable designs, from automated trading algorithms to creative data visualizations, from internal admin tools to public-facing web applications.

Build without boundaries

Memex is more than just a tool—it's a revolution in how we create. By enabling natural language development on the desktop, we're empowering a new generation of builders to bring their ideas to life.

Memex represents a fundamental shift in who can create software. While traditional development limits creation to those with coding expertise, Memex democratizes building by enabling domain experts to create their own solutions.

We're empowering a new generation of builders to bring their ideas to life. And we are just getting started. Join us.

PS - Curious about our name? Vannevar Bush described the original "memex" in 1945 as a device for storing and retrieving knowledge. Today, we're expanding that vision to building anything through conversation!
